Stressed, and at the End of Your Rope?

Feeling frayed, and stressed? Read more for creative solutions:

If you ask most people why they're stressed, they're likely to point to something in their environment- a frustrating day at work, the uncomfortable weather, or a personal experience with someone that was challenging.

Yes, there are one-time events in life that we can do very little about. But, there are ongoing environment stressors we could do something to change.

Some people even stir things up at work or home as part of a subconscious need to avoid boredom— and these can be effectively addressed with 3-D sessions.

 The most likely problem, when someone is over-stressed is internal pressures and faulty thinking patterns that people create for themselves.

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that our emotions are body chemistry that affect us physically.

 In the last few decades, science has learned a lot about the negative effects of stress. Consider increased blood pressure, decreased immunity, and the clarity that a whopping 98% of all modern disease is impacted by stress!  Most of our stress comes from underlying emotional associations with an event that happens outside of our day-to-day awareness.

The beginning of the Serenity Prayer addresses this point exactly:

God grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change;

courage to change the things I can;

and wisdom to know the difference.”

Here are the top ten sources of stress we can look out for and use courage to change:

  1. Self-criticism. Shut down the inner critic, focus on your strengths and forgive yourself.

  2. Powerlessness. Looking at what you can’t do & getting frustrated adds stress. We are all powerful beyond measure. Focus on all the choices available to you, and take action on what you can do.

  3. Perfectionism. The truth is “perfection” is something  God himself does not hold us to. Why should we expect it when it’s impossible? Do your best, and let the mythology of "perfect" go. Aim for Excellence.

  4. Worry. Faith and fear are the same action: expecting, relying on & believing.Faith is  focusing on Gods hopeful promises. Fear and worry is focusing on satan’s negative threats. Choosing to take action “as if” the hopeful is true is the best antidote to worry.

  5. Unrealistic expectations. Life can never be problem-free. But we can choose to make an impact in many places when we are being realistic.

  6. Insecurity. Emotional insecurity comes from the inside.  Each one of

  7. Hurrying. “Be present” is a good term for  daily peace. Walk slower, chew slower and avoid the trap of a frantic pace. You might be surprised to find yourself feeling better, living longer & experiencing the daily pleasures you’ve been missing.

  8. Comparing to others. The question should be whether you have met you own standard, not someone else’s.

  9. Pessimism. Watching for and expecting negative things to come has a way bringing to us what we’ve been looking for. Competition. If there were a shortage of goodness in the world, we might have to compete for it. But blessings and goodness multiply when shared, not reduce. Every encounter can be a win- win situation rather than a win-lose one, with the right mindset.
